Astellas Pharma Research Associate II, Immuno-oncology / Cell Therapies in South San Francisco, California

Astellas is announcing a Research Associate II, Immuno-oncology / Cell Therapies opportunity at their Xyphos site in South San Francisco, CA.

Purpose:

The primary purpose of the Research Associate II is to support discovery efforts for novel chimeric antigen receptor adoptive cell therapies for treatment of cancer. This position will work primarily in a laboratory setting with Scientist and R&D teams.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Profiles surface and intracellular markers for phenotypic characterization of CAR T and other immune cells
  • Performs immuno-oncology assays (e.g. cytotoxicity) for functional characterization of CAR T and other immune cells
  • Performs antibody assays (e.g. binding/blocking/binning) for screening antibody clones and formats for lead discovery and lead optimization
  • Adheres to established standard protocols for reliable and consistent data generation.
  • Works independently and with careful attention to detail, records procedure/data/results accurately and in a timely manner, interprets data, draws conclusions, and presents in meetings.
  • Collaborates with other members of the R&D team and with other teams within Astellas.
  • Involved with R&D laboratory operation. Performs other duties or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required

  • BS or MS in immunology, cancer biology, molecular biology, or similar field
  • BS degree with 3+ years MS with 0-2 years of relevant hands-on laboratory experience (internship, work, or academic research)
  • Proficiency at multi-color flow cytometry (4+ channels), including operating flow cytometers, analyzing flow data
  • Experience in mammalian cell culture, specifically in immune cell functional assays with readouts for at least one: cytotoxicity, activation, proliferation, cytokine secretion
  • Good math skills and attention to detail in experimentation and record keeping
  • Eagerness to learn about cutting-edge science in cancer biology, immunology, and CAR-T cells
  • Willingness to be independent in the lab, hard-working personality with excellent work ethic, team-player attitude, crisp communication skills, ability to work weekends as needed

Preferred

  • Industry work or internship experience, especially in CAR-T cell or immuno-oncology field
  • Knowledge about antibody structure, NK and T cell effector functions, subsets, and markers
  • Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g. FlowJo, GraphPad)
  • Experience with lentiviral transductions, DNA cloning, PCR, CRISPR for KO
  • Familiarity with one or more of the following techniques: ELISA/ELISPOT/Luminex/CBA/MSD
  • Familiarity with PBMC isolation from blood products, cell separation techniques
  • Familiarity with sample preparation for transcriptomic and epigenetic profiling
